Marketplace policies
Demo policies for the Bazaar Zero pilot. They are written in plain language and apply to every portal.
1. Terms of use
Bazaar Zero is a marketplace that connects independent stores, customers and delivery partners. Each store is the seller of record for its own products. The platform provides discovery, checkout orchestration, communication and support tooling, and charges stores a fixed subscription rather than a percentage of product sales.
By creating an account you agree to provide accurate information, keep credentials secure, follow applicable law, and use the marketplace in good faith. Accounts may be restricted for fraud, abuse, counterfeit listings or repeated policy breaches, with a documented reason and an appeal path.
Product information, prices, taxes, delivery promises and policies are published by stores and must be accurate. The marketplace may remove listings that are prohibited, unsafe or misleading.
2. Privacy
We collect only what is needed to run the marketplace: account contact details, addresses, order records, payment references, device/session information and, for stores and riders, verification documents.
Identity documents are stored privately, masked in the interface and accessible only to authorised reviewers; access is logged. Customer and rider phone numbers are not exposed by default — communication happens through in-app chat or masked contact.
You can request an export or deletion of your personal data from Settings → Privacy. Invoices, payment and tax records are retained where law requires.
3. Returns & refunds
Eligibility depends on the product category, the store’s published policy, the order state and your statutory rights. Perishable food, opened hygiene products and custom-made furniture may be non-returnable when this is clearly disclosed before purchase.
A return request is not a refund confirmation. The store or marketplace reviews the evidence; if approved, a reverse pickup or drop-off is arranged. Refunds are processed to the original payment method after the item is received and inspected.
If a store rejects a request, the reason is shown and you can appeal. Marketplace support can review chat records, order timelines and photo evidence.
4. Delivery & pickup
Stores choose which fulfilment modes they support: platform riders, external couriers and/or customer pickup. Only options valid for your PIN and basket appear at checkout.
Local delivery and pickup use one-time codes. Never share your OTP before you receive the parcel. Courier timelines are estimates; tracking updates are synced from the provider.
If nobody is available at the drop address, the rider will attempt contact and support may reschedule. Repeated failed handovers may incur a return trip.
5. Payments
Product payments belong to the store that sold the item. Subscription payments are platform revenue. Delivery fees and rider earnings are tracked as separate ledgers and are never merged with product proceeds.
Payment success is confirmed only by a verified provider webhook or server-side status check. The browser redirect alone never marks an order paid. In sandbox/demo mode, payments are simulated and no real money moves.
Cash on delivery creates a collection obligation. Riders remit collected cash as a separate, reconciled transaction.
6. Store obligations
Stores must hold valid licences for their category (for example FSSAI for food, drug licence for pharmacy), publish accurate prices and stock, honour accepted orders, and keep product and policy information up to date.
Suspension freezes new sales but never removes obligations for existing orders, refunds or invoices. Subscription expiry grants a grace period before new selling is restricted.
7. Rider conduct & pay
Delivery partners must hold a valid licence and insurance for their vehicle, follow traffic law, treat customers respectfully and protect parcel integrity. Safety issues take priority over delivery speed.
The payout shown before acceptance is locked with its pricing version. Adjustments for extra work are recorded and auditable. COD holdings are a liability until remitted and reconciled.
